We started with a simple question
Why does managing money feel so complicated?
Back in 2019, two friends sat in a café discussing their frustrations. Both earned decent salaries. Both felt perpetually broke. The issue wasn't income—it was clarity.
Most budgeting tools felt like homework. Spreadsheets demanded too much time. Apps either oversimplified or overwhelmed. People needed something that actually fit how they think about money on a daily basis.
carionexvia emerged from that conversation. We're not here to reinvent finance—just to make it less stressful for regular folks trying to stay on top of things.
The people behind carionexvia
We're based in Tasmania, but we understand budget challenges from Melbourne to Perth.
Alaric Pemberton
Co-Founder
Spent a decade in banking before realizing the industry talked at people instead of with them. Alaric believes financial literacy shouldn't require a finance degree. His background in customer experience shapes how we design every feature.
Felix Thorvaldsson
Co-Founder
Former software engineer who grew tired of building complex systems nobody enjoyed using. Felix focuses on making carionexvia intuitive enough that you don't need tutorials. His philosophy: if it takes more than three clicks, we've failed.
What drives our decisions
These aren't just nice words on a wall. They're the filters we use when building features and choosing what to tackle next.
Honesty over hype
We won't promise you'll become wealthy using our tools. We will help you understand where your money goes each month. That's valuable, but it's not magic. Budget planning takes effort, and we're upfront about that.
Practical before fancy
Every feature request gets the same test: will this genuinely help someone manage their weekly expenses? If the answer involves too many "maybes" or "it depends," we skip it. Simplicity wins.
Support that listens
When someone contacts us, they're usually stressed about money. Our support team doesn't use scripts. They have authority to actually solve problems instead of just escalating them. That costs more, but stress reduction matters.
How we got here
Six years of gradual improvements, occasional setbacks, and constant learning from actual users.
2019
First prototype launched
Built a basic expense tracker with fifty beta users. The interface was clunky, but people stuck with it because it actually helped them spot spending patterns they'd missed.
2021
Rebuilt from scratch
User feedback revealed our initial approach was too rigid. We scrapped most of the code and redesigned around flexibility. People budget differently—our software needed to accommodate that.
2023
Reached 5,000 active users
Growth happened through word of mouth, not advertising. That told us we were solving a real problem. We hired our first support specialist and started weekly educational workshops.
2025
Expanded educational resources
Users kept asking similar questions about managing irregular income and planning for irregular expenses. We developed structured learning programs that launch in September 2025, designed for people with zero financial background.
What makes our approach different
Most financial services either talk down to people or drown them in jargon. We aim for something in between—respectful but straightforward.
No shame, no judgment
Money mistakes are normal. We've all made them. Our tools show you patterns without making you feel guilty about last month's impulse purchases. Understanding beats scolding.
Privacy by design
Your financial data belongs to you. We don't sell it, mine it for advertising, or share it with third parties. Our business model depends on subscription fees, not data harvesting.
Real education focus
Tools alone don't change financial behaviour. Understanding does. That's why we run free monthly workshops covering topics from emergency fund planning to negotiating bills. Our next series starts in August 2025.
Australian context matters
Tax systems, pay cycles, and banking structures differ by country. We built carionexvia specifically for how Australians handle money—from PAYG withholding to superannuation considerations.
